Lydia Jane Rucker 1854, ten children; d. 1875; first term as county treasurer from 1854 ["in the mid 1860s" incorrect; 75Jun, 10], second term 1864-66; third U.S. postmaster of Monterey, 1855-1861; also member of first tax-supported school board 1853-54; deputy collector ca. 1853; responsible for all federal buildings in Monterey and vicinity, including Cuartel, ca. 1858; after business failure, family remained in Watsonville; "official agent of the Quartermaster's Department of the U.S. Army" and as such "had charge of the Military Reserve (present Presidio) all building thereon, and of the Cartel, etc." (75Jun, 10)
